In this study, scientists found that applying hydrogen solution to rabbit eyes before causing a chemical burn with alkali could prevent a lot of the usual damage, such as scarring and blood vessel growth, that makes the cornea cloudy. The hydrogen treatment seemed to boost the eye's own antioxidant defenses, which fight against the damaging effects of oxidative stress caused by the chemical injury. This suggests that hydrogen has the potential to protect the eye from various conditions that are linked to oxidative damage.
