Researchers investigated whether hydrogen gas could promote the death of lung adenocarcinoma cells in laboratory conditions. Using A549 cancer cells, they found that hydrogen gas appears to trigger programmed cell death (apoptosis) by targeting specific proteins that normally protect cancer cells from dying.
